Based on a short sojourn history of my mother (TAO Renxiu), who studied 2 years in Hangzhou in the 1950s as a teenager, meanwhile the current reality of my life working in Hangzhou like a “migratory bird”, the director uses classical film language combined with the most concerned AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content) technology, in an attempt to construct a “memory of Hangzhou”, that intertwined with the real and the imagined, every day and somehow extraordinary, the realistic and the abstract, etc. This documentary imports a creative gene of media experimentation, in the dimensions of live shooting and editing, hoping to interpret the reality of urban change, which is both familiar and unfamiliar, reasonable and bizarre, in the individual narratives of two generations.
Hangzhou Stories was funded by the British Council, and developed in collaboration with SDI and CNEX Foundation.
